  • Fort Leonard Wood

    Located in Missouri in the Ozarks, this military installation was named after an ex chief of staff of the United States, General Leonard Wood. The facility has its main gate at St. Robert’s southern boundary and was established in 1940. The initial intention of setting up the facility is to train new infantry troops, but was eventually used a training facility for engineering officers. When the Fort McClellan was shut down, operations of the Chemical Corps of the Army and the training schools for Military Police Corps were transferred to the Fort Leonard Wood Base. The center is commanded by Major General David E. Quantock, assisted by Major Corbly L. Elsbury, who are the commanding general and sergeant general respectively. The facility is also nick-named the “Fort Lost in the Woods of Misery” by those who visit the facility and the military officers as well.

    The Leonard Wood Fort was used to train replacement officers for engineers of the Army because of its remote location; out of town and in the mountains where temperature and other conditions can be very extreme. The facility has mainly been used for all kinds of training all over the years. With the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, the facility is being used by the 94th Engineering Battalion, when it was relocated to the United States from Germany.  It also offers combat training to mostly non-combat army officers as well as other engineering units. The unit gives equal opportunity to both male and female trainees, except in the case combat training, some models which are not open to women. Leadership courses are offered at both Advanced and Senior levels and are mainly for Engineering, Chemical and Military Police departments.  The training schools turn out a large number of warrant officers and other officers, including Captains and officers of other senior ranks.

  • Fort Hamilton

    Fort Hamilton houses the United States Army Corps of Engineers which is located in the Bay Ridge of Brooklyn, New York and is one of the several units based in the region which is controlled by the Military District of Washington on October 1997 and Fort Hamilton became a unit of Installation Management Agency under the Army Transportation on October 2002.

    The military base mission is to grant New York City with military support for the United States Army Reserve and the Army National Guard. The base also houses the New York City Recruiting Battalion, Reserve Units, the Military Entrance Processing Station, the 722nd Aeromedical Staging Squadron and the 1179th Transportation Brigade.

    The military base was named after Alexander Hamilton who was the first Secretary of Treasury of the United States. The famous military personalities who took control of the post were Captain Robert Lee who strengthened the defensive structures at the Narrows, First Lieutenant Thomas Jackson who was later called “Stonewall” and Captain Abner Doubleday who was often called the inventor of baseball and hero of Gettysburg.

    The garrison of Fort Hamilton undergoes expansion while Fort Lafayette became the prison camp for the imprisoned Confederates during the Civil War. Being the only active installation in the area, Fort Hamilton performs all the duties the different installations usually do. There are different rehabilitations that were done at the Narrows, different structures were destroyed by Verrazano Narrows Bridge, Fort Lafayette included because it was near the Brooklyn shore.

    It was in 1966 when efforts to save the historical structures started to unfold such as the Staten Island Fort Wadsworth Museum and the Army’s Harbor Defense Museum. There are also famous landmarks like the Robert Lee House and the Colonel’s Row which houses the elder military officers.  The original fort became the Officer’s Club which is now the place for the Community Club.

  • Fort Drum

    Fort Drum is a United States Army military installation that is situated in Jefferson County. It has a population of 12,123 in a 107, 265 acres of land. The installation houses the 10th Mountain Division, the US Army Materiel Command FSC, the American Red Cross, the 18th Weather Squadron Detachment and the 20th Air Support Squadron.

    Fort Drum was built on 1908 and was utilized as a training site since it was established. Its primary mission is to command of the active units assigned in the area, provides logistic and administrative support of its tenant units, and supports the active duty servicemen and reserves in their training of nearly 80,000 troops a year. Fort Drum’s popularity started in 1935 when about 36,000 soldiers from the northeast came to be part of the peaceful exercise which was held in Pine Plains and the nearby areas.

    During World War II, Pine Camp undergoes expansion by purchasing 75,000 acres of land and within 10 months period with a budget of $20 million, the entire place which was used to be a farmland now houses the different units that were planned to undergo training. The 4th Armored Division, the 5th Armored Division and the 45th Infantry Division were the three units that trained at the Pine Camp.

    It served also as the camp for the prisoners of war. On 1951, Pine Camp was named Camp Drum in honor of Lt.General Hugh A.Drum who led the First United States Army during the Second World War. It was changed to Fort Drum on 1974. The first units arrived on December 1984 and on February 1985 the units was activated and the unit was named as the 10th Mountain Division. New building, roads and housing units were built with a budget of 1.3 million between the periods of 1986 to 1992.

  • US Army Camp Frank D. Merrill

    The United States Army Camp Frank D. Merrill is the primary military base that accommodates United States Army Ranger School and the 5th Ranger Training Battalion, which is operated by small unit commanders.  Trainees are instructed on procedures and combat techniques to shift and move at adequate speed in various terrains, including mountainous environments.

    Most of the military combat areas are on mountainous landforms and since one eighth of the earth’s formation is composite of mountains, it is important to equip operatives on all educational aspects of situations that may affect their effectiveness in combat.

    The objective of the installation is to train and educate unit operatives on all different types of mountaineering skills to execute effectiveness on the battlefield. These trainees will be trained in real life experiences to test their skills, physically and mentally to maneuver such endeavors.

    There are currently three Ranger training establishments available, with this installation being the second, is ideally designed to elevate the soldiers ability to organize and manage picayune combat units for mission in mountainous landscapes. This installation offers coverage for patrol infiltration and exfiltration, ambushes, mountaineering skills, direct fire missions, small unit tactics, raids and other combat skills in close range.

    All students entertained, will receive complete procedures and instructions in handling horrendous situations that may cause complications on the battlefield. These students will efficiently adapt and avail sustenance skills and endurance on different patrol missions that requires dedication and determination.  After exposure to these field events of training, trainees are evaluated based on commitment and stamina to the maximum level of efficiency executed. Once the students have completed all events on the Mountain aspect of training, they are transported by parachute assault or bus to the third and final of training session, which is conducted in Florida at the Camp Rudder,  in close proximity to the Eglin Air Force Base.

  • Detroit Arsenal

    The Michigan Detroit Arsenal is definitely a magnificent place, especially since it is today home to 1st manufacture plant designed for tank mass production- this is in the United States and it is all about meeting high standards. The Detroit Arsenal Plant was once established back in 1940. When the WW2 was taking place, this Detroit arsenal tank plant was producing much more than twenty thousand tanks.  The total production was so huge! That original constructed plant is not working today and instead it is actually used for all sorts of civilian purposes and tasks.

    The Michigan Detroit Arsenal plant and some others with similar qualities were once considered as the so called Arsenal of the Democracy- this was established by the respected and beloved president Roosevelt- It was due to the automotive industry of Michigan that was able to fully produce quality armaments for the WW2. It is also a very important tank search spot.

    The tank installation is somehow like the headquarters in terms of the Tank-Automotive industry & the specialized Armaments Command.     The tank arsenal was once built especially to directly support the WWII effort.  Managements ended up closing it to become what it is today! Everything is enhanced and even the management functions of Aviation Command are fabulous.  They relocated the Army missions’ right to West Side a sport that somehow divides Michigan Detroit Tank Plant and the Arsenal.     The Massachusetts Soldier Systems center is to be fully respected. Today, it is the home of The United States of America Soldier Systems and it is situated in the beautiful and interesting Natick, MA. It is approximately seventeen miles from Boston (West). The Systems Center installation is located in a strategic and marvelous place. The tiny housing areas are just great and they are scattered along all the especial surrounding towns.   • Fort George G. Meade

    It is a census controlled defense post and it is located in Anne Arundel County in the city of Odenton in Maryland. The population of the post is little above 10,000 and it is home to National Security Agency. The project started in 1917 as one of sixteen temporarily headquarter of Army installments, where US soldiers stayed before being deployed in Europe during World War I. The site comprise of large buildings with high level security around the site. The site was named after George Gordon Meade who was a civil engineer and an officer during number of US wars including Mexican-American and American civil war.

    Today Maryland Fort Meade is home to number of national security organizations including US Army Intelligence, US Environment Protection Agency Center, Defense Courier Security, Defense Information School and more. The post covers an area of 5000 acres and there are around 10,000 personnel working on the site, which also includes 25.000 civilians working for defense and security agency. Infact it is also home to 6000 people who live here.

    The base is packed with all the facilities of a small city but having offices and headquarters to some of the most high profile agencies and organizations. The site has all the facilities for Army families living in Maryland Fort Meade. The base also have small and large communities, which works for Army families to provide comfort facilities recreational activities, they also arranges seasonal and yearly festivals that are widely attended by people. The base is divided into work group assigned different tasks such as Family Advocacy Program, Volunteer Programs, Employment Program and more.

  • Fort Detrick (MRMC)

    It is basically a US Army medical center and it is located in the center of Fredrick in state of Maryland. Interestingly it formerly worked as US Biological Weapons Program but it was ended in 1973. Today it works as both research center in the field of medicine and biology. It is home to research and development of biological chemicals and medicines. Infact it is also home to US Army Medical Research and Materiel Command, which is still in operation today. The Maryland Fort Detrick works along number of institutes and research departments to conduct researches in biology and medicine.

    The Maryland Fort Detrick also has the honor to host National Cancer Institute-Frederick and it is suggested to combine parts of center with number of campuses of other research departments and institutes.

    The center was first constructed to be part of the airport but it served as a medical center during World War I and it is named in honor of Major Frederick L. Detrick, and it has been working as a medical center since then. Fort Detrick first contained biological weapons and it became part of biological weapon program. Today the US Army has created number of research departments in Fort Detrick.

    The location of the center also played a vital role during Cold War. Just after World War II the Fort Detrick was converted into a permanent location for biological research program during peace. Interestingly the fact of running a biological program was established in 1956, and it was also discovered that there were plans to make this place world’s leading biological research center. Most of laboratory instruments, equipments and even the land of the research program were transferred to US Department of Health and Human Sciences, and the land was eventually converted to medical center with the name of Maryland Fort Detrick.

  • Rock Island Arsenal

    The Rock Island Arsenal was originally set up as a leather field gear and accoutrement manufacturing center as well as an arsenal. It is now the manufacturing center for small arms and many of the military artillery in the United States. It covers 3.83 square kilometers of land and located between the Rock Island, Iowa and the city of Davenport.

    This Base was the site where Fort Armstrong was located, and was originally a government site but now serves as the largest United States Army arsenal for manufacturing weapons. Liberty Mark VIII tanks were made at the Base for the 1st World War and as such recognized as a historic landmark. Arsenal Rock served as an army prison during the American Civil War, where captured soldiers of the Confederation were detained. The facilities were hurriedly built when there is notice of arrival of new prisoners.

    The arsenal is a successful military equipment manufacturing center, with products including M1A1 gun mount and the M119 howitzers and M198. The center also manufactures grenade launchers, recoil mechanisms, artillery, gun mounts and aircraft weapons subsystems. The military staff strength of the artillery is about 250 and about 6,000 civilian workers. A military cemetery, adjacent to the arsenal serves as the burial ground for over 1,964 prisoners of the confederate and Union Guards numbering 125.

    Also, 49 members of the Colored Troops of the United States who died from diseases of exposure were also buried there. The arsenal also has other historic sites that serve as tourist sites. The Col. Davenport’s House is visited by many people and also where the first bridge was built across the Mississippi. The officers’ quarters which are located along the Mississippi river and the Cemetery of the Confederate are also visited. The Stone Workshops of the 19th Century and the Rock Island National Cemetery, both located on the Rock Island Arsenal are also regarded as historic sites.

  • Hunter Army Airfield

    On a land mass of an estimated size of over 5, 400 acres of land, nestled is the Hunter Army Airfield military base, which is located in Savannah, Georgia. This installation is situated in the county of Chatam and constitutes a collection of sub-divisions.

    The primary objective of the Hunter Army Airfield military base, is to deliver administration, control, training, civilian military support, command and logistical support to both non-divisional and assigned units that are stationed at the Fort Stewart installation.

    On a daily basis, the facility accommodates the following occupants in its population:

    A total of 10, 205 civilian employees, 10, 514 active duty officers, 3, 474 family members, 780 reserve component officers, 417 active duties enlisted and 6, 579 retirees.

    The facility is under operation command of the Fort Stewart military installation as a combined establishment prominently located in Savannah, Georgia. The location served as the Savannah Municipal Airport in 1929.

    In 1940 the establishment was renamed as Hunter Municipal Airfield in commemoration of the reputable services provided by Lieutenant Colonel Frank O’ Driscoll Hunter, who is a native of Savannah and a legendary flying operative of World War I. This installation was the first of its kind in August of the year 1940.

    The runway for this military base is approximately 3.5 kilometers and the most prominent with its featured airport parlance sectors composing of over 350 acres in landmass. Deployment is entertained by the 3rd Infantry Division within close proximity to the Fort Stewart installation to avail support to various destinations worldwide.   • Tripler Army Medical Center

    Hawaii Tripler Medical Center is the largest military hospital in Asia. It also operates as headquarter of Pacific Regional Medical Center. And it comes under the administration of US Army. It is located in the city of Honolulu in the state of Hawaii. It also has the honor to have the title of being the only United Nations Peace Operations Institute in US. The hospital was built in 1907 as Tripler Army Medical Hospital but the name of the hospital was later changed in honor of Brigadier General Charles Stuart Tripler. The building is divided into smaller buildings specified different duties and departments.

    The hospital has massive size and can accommodate large number of patients. During World War II the hospital had 450-bed but it was expanded to accommodate 1000-beds. Interestingly the color of the building is pink. There are different stories about having pink color of the building, some says that it was the choice of General Richardson who commissioned the hospital; infact pink color is very popular in Hawaii and it is favorite color of many people.

    There is also a story that when the design of the building was complete, it was time to decide the color of the project and General Anderson looked outside the window at pink color sand and suggested that it should be similar to pink.

    The hospital also works with United Nations and offers its services for research, training and education. It also supports universities and researchers in United States working in medical field. It also owns the honor of working as Center of Excellence in Disaster Management Humanitarian Assistance; the hospital works along United Nations and supports it in international operations and projects. Hawaii Schofield Barracks is basically an US Army post rather than a base. It is a census controlled city located on the island of Oahu, Hawaii. It has a population of 14,428 comprising of civilians, Army personnel, employees and families. The Army post was built in 1908 and has been in use since then. The main purpose of the post is to provide protection to nearby Pearl Harbor and Oahu Island, which has become the largest army installation in Hawaii.

    The Hawaii Schofield Barrack is home to 25th Infantry Division and it is also known by other names; they played vital role during Vietnam War and have vast amount of experience in performing operations in dense forests and rainy areas. The Hawaii Schofield Barracks currently comprise of highly trained airborne soldiers, Stryker vehicles and light infantry. The 25th Infantry Division was composed in 1941 and has been deployed in Hawaii Schofield Barracks for a long time. The infantry has also performed operations in Korean War, World War II, Iraq and Afghan War.

    The Hawaii Army post also comprise of US Army Hawaii Command Headquarters responsible for operations in Hawaii. It also has Schofiled Training School to train new soldiers with weapons and endurance exercises. The area of the post comprise of houses for families of Army and most of them have been privatized but remains under Army’s administration, entertainment facilities such as bowling alleys, library, shops and grocery stores and more. The residential area comprise of modern design apartments and houses, designed with luxurious features and comfort. It also offers East Range Training Area built for testing rifles and practice; it is a very restricted area and only authorized personnel are allowed to enter the place.

    The Fort Stewart-Hunter Army Airfield military is the only confinement containing establishments that dates back as far as the Second World War and the early 1950’s. The facility is nestled on a landmass of 279, 200 acres of plots, which is elongated across five counties. The installation is renowned for its large capacity and is recognized as one of the largest military installation located east of the Mississippi River, which offers continued support to the nation and individuals within and around the world, in distress.

    The organization is well reputable for its provisions of heavy duty protection force power platform on the Eastern Coast. The main objective of the installation is to train, equip, deploy and redeploy specialized operatives under command on mobilization and army component units for the United States military.
