    The weapon manufacturing companies comprise of civilians and military scientists, assigned to develop weapons for military use. The testing of these weapons is administrated by Naval Surface Warfare Center. They also have a rapid response team incase of biological weapon outbreak, to control and contain the event; the team is known as Chemical and Biological Incident Response Force.

    The base has all the facilities for Army families living inside the base. It has schools and education centers such as Henry E.   • Naval Air Station Patuxent River

    The Maryland Patuxent River is a Naval Station. It is also known like the NAS PaxRiver. This is a USA Air Station situated in the fancy St. Mary’s County, in Maryland; it is right on Chesapeake Bay- This Naval Station is very close to the Patuxent River mouth. This is an optimal spot.

    Back in 1937, the Aeronautics Bureau wanted to fully consolidate many aviation test plans and programs that were before conducted at plenty of stations like Norfolk, the Yard, the Naval Air Anacostia station in Washington, etc. Finally, the cedar Point was the one selected because of the specific remote location that was on the beautiful coastline, no traffic, no problems, etc.

  • Fort George G. Meade

    It is a census controlled defense post and it is located in Anne Arundel County in the city of Odenton in Maryland. The population of the post is little above 10,000 and it is home to National Security Agency. The project started in 1917 as one of sixteen temporarily headquarter of Army installments, where US soldiers stayed before being deployed in Europe during World War I. The site comprise of large buildings with high level security around the site. The site was named after George Gordon Meade who was a civil engineer and an officer during number of US wars including Mexican-American and American civil war.

    Today Maryland Fort Meade is home to number of national security organizations including US Army Intelligence, US Environment Protection Agency Center, Defense Courier Security, Defense Information School and more. The post covers an area of 5000 acres and there are around 10,000 personnel working on the site, which also includes 25.000 civilians working for defense and security agency. Infact it is also home to 6000 people who live here.

    The base is packed with all the facilities of a small city but having offices and headquarters to some of the most high profile agencies and organizations. The site has all the facilities for Army families living in Maryland Fort Meade. The base also have small and large communities, which works for Army families to provide comfort facilities recreational activities, they also arranges seasonal and yearly festivals that are widely attended by people. The base is divided into work group assigned different tasks such as Family Advocacy Program, Volunteer Programs, Employment Program and more.

    Talking about houses on the site the housing agency works with house construction companies and designers to design and construct houses with different features, which are build as per military tradition.

  • Fort Detrick (MRMC)

    It is basically a US Army medical center and it is located in the center of Fredrick in state of Maryland. Interestingly it formerly worked as US Biological Weapons Program but it was ended in 1973. Today it works as both research center in the field of medicine and biology. It is home to research and development of biological chemicals and medicines. Infact it is also home to US Army Medical Research and Materiel Command, which is still in operation today. The Maryland Fort Detrick works along number of institutes and research departments to conduct researches in biology and medicine.

    The Maryland Fort Detrick also has the honor to host National Cancer Institute-Frederick and it is suggested to combine parts of center with number of campuses of other research departments and institutes.

    The center was first constructed to be part of the airport but it served as a medical center during World War I and it is named in honor of Major Frederick L. Detrick, and it has been working as a medical center since then. Fort Detrick first contained biological weapons and it became part of biological weapon program. Today the US Army has created number of research departments in Fort Detrick.

    The location of the center also played a vital role during Cold War. Just after World War II the Fort Detrick was converted into a permanent location for biological research program during peace. Interestingly the fact of running a biological program was established in 1956, and it was also discovered that there were plans to make this place world’s leading biological research center. Most of laboratory instruments, equipments and even the land of the research program were transferred to US Department of Health and Human Sciences, and the land was eventually converted to medical center with the name of Maryland Fort Detrick.

  • National Naval Medical Center (NNMC)

    Maryland Bethesda Medical Center is also known as National Naval Medical Center and it is situated in the city of Bethesda in state Maryland. The medical center was built in 1940 and it has been operating as one of the best US naval hospitals. The staff of medical center comprises of both civilians and military personnel. It also has the honor to provide health care to the family of US President. The center is made up of research department to conduct research work, provide health care for high profile Americans as well as medical care services to both current and former military personnel.

    There are also some plans to merge Maryland Bethesda Medical Center with Walter Reed Army Medical Center to create a larger medical center with more facilities and services. The medical offers great services and it is build with many medical features. It also works with Armed Forces Radiobiology Institute providing facilities to other medical organizations and institutes. They all work together to provide better medical research platform and services to both civilians and military personnel.

    The original design of the project only included health care services but after numerous upgrades of medical staff and instruments it is more than just medical center. Today it has become home to medical center for family of US President, American hero and some of the most high profile civil and military personnel. Even the President Ronal Reagan’s wife Nancy Reagan visited Maryland Bethesda Medical Center for medical care.

    In 1960 it went under a major expansion upgrade costing around $5.6 million, the main building was added with more floors, more bed spaces were added to the inventory of the center and temporarily ward building built during World War II was removed from the project.

  • Aberdeen Proving Ground

    The Aberdeen Proving Ground was founded on October 20, 1917 is the oldest operational proving ground of the United Stated Army. It has the world’s leading facilities in the military that allows testing, development, research and design of the principal military paraphernalia and weapons. The APG is based in Aberdeen, Harford County in Maryland close to the shipping and industrial centers. APG was built when they realize that Sandy Hook Proving Ground was too small for the tests being done on some of the larger weapons.

    There are other installations that are not connected to the main APG such as Grace Quarters and the Caroll Island in Baltimore County, the Churchville Test Area located in Harford County who does all the repairs and tests of the Army’s combat vehicles and tanks, the US Army ordnance Corps Museum and the Edgewood Chemical Activity.

    The Aberdeen proving ground has a land area of 72,500 acres while employing 3,900military personnel, 3,000 private contractors and 7,500 civilians. The active military employees have 2,700 dependents living in the area. It has a population of 3,116 with 763 families and 805 households. It is situated on the south by Gunpowder River, and on the northern part is the mouth of the Susquehanna River. It is situated on the neck of two islands, the Aberdeen Area in the northeastern part and the Edgewood Area in the southwestern part.

    The APG lease their temporary unused land to selected property developers under the Enhance Use Lease (EUL) agreement with opus East.L.L.C. The proceeds will go to the maintenance and improvements of the infrastructures, new buildings, road upgrade, deferred maintenance and other needs of the installation. The agreement which paved the way to “The Gate” project includes 3,000,000 square feet development both inside and outside the APG area, 11 land bays and 416 acres of land.

    Andrews Air Force Base is the place for the Air Force One and the 89 Airlift Wing who host the VIP missions of the high public officials of United States of America including the President, Vice President, delegates from the congress and other foreign distinguished dignitaries from other countries.  It supports the o ne Marine Corps Reserve F/A 18 Squadron and one Navy Reserve. All other units with special missions and 60 different units are housed here in Andrews AFB. While Andrews AFB has its own duty as the place for the Navy Reserve, the aircraft intended for the President takes top priority than any other missions.  They are always ready in cases of emergency at very short notice.

    It was on August 25, 1941 that the base was first established under the name of Camp Springs Army Field and started its operation on May 2, 1943.  The name was altered to Andrews Field after Lt General Frank M. Andrews, the man in command of all the operations in Europe. When the Air Force was established on 1947, Andrew Field was changed to its present name, the Andrews Air Force Base. It was on July 1961 when Andrews AFB plays host to the Air Force One, the official presidential aircraft. 

    Andrews Air Force Base started the annual air show and open house on the base since 1950. It then continued to the Department of Defense Joint Services open House which brings less than a million visitors to Andrews AFB annually. It is here where the reunions of the Vietnamese prisoners of war took place; the witness of the arrival of the fallen leaders, John F. Kennedy being the first and also a witness to the historic tour to the US of Pope John Paul II.
