Camp Eagle

Camp Eagle used to be called R-401and was officially named Camp Eagle on July 3, 1989. This was established as a joint effort of both the United States Government and Republic of Korea as their first major project.  Camp Eagle is basically the newest and the most modern army installation found in Republic of Korea with its two major installation unit, the Company G, 2nd Battalion 52nd Aviation Regiment and the 1st Squadron, 6th Cavalry Regiment. This army installation also houses the 520th Maintenance Company and Lockheed Martin for the civilian contractors while the 194th Maintenance Battalion supports the 1-6th Cavalry and OL-B Det 2, 607th Weather Squadron.

On June 1996, Camp Eagle had undergone reorganization and was part of Area III whose unit’s responsibilities became under Camp Long which is seven miles ways from Camp Eagle. However, Camp Eagle has its own fire department, community club, small Post Exchange, barber shop, ATM, gym, softball field and KATUSA Snack Bar. Other services also include the Airfield Safety, Airfield Operations and the Chapel. The launching of the new Community Activity Center greatly improved the quality of living for the Camp Eagle military men and their dependent families.

This was opened on July 18 by Col. John E. Dumoulin, the US Army Garrison Humphrey Commander who told the residents that the intention of the community center is to complete and improve the quality of their life. The community center will now be a place for entertainment and relaxation for the unit personnel. This includes a movie and television room, pool tables, ping pong, video game center, reading room, music room and other entertainment facilities. The ongoing projects with in the area are library, internet facility, coffee shop and will also offer other activities such as trips to nearby ski destinations. Because of these modern and complete facilities, Camp Eagle became the favorite among the residents.
