Fort Bragg

The North Carolina Fort Bragg is considered as a marvelous and extensive United States facility. More precisely it is actually a very important U.S army installation, in the county of Cumberland and Hoke in the North Carolina region, part of it its mostly in the Fayetteville and another part in Spring lake. Coordinates 35 ° 8’21 “N 78 ° 59’57” W, with a population of 39.457 stretching on an area of 251 square miles covering four counties (Hoke, Harnett, Cumberland, Moore).Its better known by military people as the Home of Special Forces and Airborne Forces. Below are more details and history that made a great impact in history of the United States and so on.

In 1918 Fort Bragg was artillery training camp first the goal was to have six artillery brigades at the cost of 6 million dollars that was given for this operation and land. This plan was abandoned right after WW 1 ended. This was very important since everything changed.

Later on, September 30, 1922 Camp Bragg is renamed to Fort Bragg so it can become a permanent home for the U.S army post. Four barracks were constructed in that time too which stands even today after 89 years.

Moreover, in 1940 World War II was in place and the population in Fort Bragg reached 5.400 and after only one year the population exploded to 67.000 this was because a lot of units were assigned here for training during World War II that includes the 2nd Armored Division, 9th Infantry Division, 82nd Airborne Division and the 100th Infantry Division, the population of Fort Bragg facility reached the peak during the World War II years which was of 159 .000.

The Fort Bragg base even participated in the WW 2, Vietnam, 1990 Saudi Arabia, 21st century Iraq and Afghanistan.

    I read a article that “operation Jedi” was a ARMY operation out of the proud home of the 82nd airborne Fort Bragg it was based on the movie “Men Who Stare At Goats” also my Uncle is 82nd airborne HD=Honorable Discharge in the early 80’s,and My Friend DAF HD in the mid 90’s from the 82nd also i play pool at a local bar and Good friends with a Korea War Veteran that is 82nd and some Nam vets but they were marines,also have a friend in Marines serveing his 2nd tour in Iraq as i write and has shrapnell wounds to his face,his Humvee was hit with a IED=Improvised Explosive Device,He was wounded in face,and 1 of his squad members was KIA
