Hickam Air Force Base is based in Honolulu City and managed by the United States Pacific air Force. This is also the place for 15^4th Wing of the Hawaii Air National Guard, 515^th Air Mobility operations Wing of Air Mobility Command and 15^th Airlift Wing. The base got its name after Lieutenant Colonel Horace Meek Hickam, a pioneer in Aviation of the United States Army Corps.

Hickam AFB has a land area of 2,850 with a value of more than $444 million in properties. Its boundary on the north is the Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard, Fort Kamehameda on the south, the airport on the east and the Pearl Harbor Entrance on the west side of the base. The base and the adjoining Honolulu International Airport shares the same runaways. They signed an agreement for the shared use of the single airport complex.

The base provides work for military, contractor personnel and civilians in performing common support in personnel and installation facilities. It was in October 1980 when Secretary of Interior recognized Hickam Air Force Base as a National momentous Landmark because of its major role during the great Second World War in the Pacific Region.

Dominating the region in Hickam Air Force Base is the large bronze plaque with all names of the heroes who died on December 7, 1941. There are other tourist attractions like the tattered flag that is on exhibition which reminded them of the 1941 attack. The buildings that have the scars of the fired bullets are preserved like a constant reminder of the attack.

According to the 2000 US Census, Hickam has 5371 population comprising of 1632 housing units with 1589 families. Hickam is composed of 0.6% Native American, 1.0% Pacific Islander, 8.2% Asian, 11.7% Black, 66.2% White and 12.4% from other races.
