In the county of Cumberland, nestled is the Pope Air Force Base that is in close proximity to Fayettville, North Carolina. The base is currently the assigned domicile for the 43rd Airlift Wing, the 18th Air Support Operations Group and the 23rd Fighter Group, since established in the year 1919. The base populates a land mass of 2, 194 hectares and was given the name to idolize Lieutenant Harley Harbert Hope, who was the first commander of the installation.

The 43rd Airlift Wing’s main function is to provide assistance to various units in the Fort Bragg area and the 82nd Airborne Division.
The installation is also effective in providing adequate support in Rapid Global mobility, for the United States Air Force. The C-130s are designed to transport supplies, equipments and individuals to worldwide destinations, in aid of the United States Military and Civic operations.
