Camp Dwyer

Camp Dwyer was built by the United States in Afghanistan as a result of the long standing relationship between these two countries. The United States moves to assist Afghanistan in warfare and military installations, while it also uses it during for its own purpose. It is fully equipped to serve as a marine base. It was built in the Helmand River Valley, a place commonly referred to the troops as “Hell man” due to its harsh weather conditions. The weather is usually hot, with temperatures reaching extreme values. The base is mostly commanded by the United States Marine and is operated as a store for logistics and living quarters for a number of troops.  A lot of United States military personnel have been killed in this region and are remembered by inscribing their names on metallic nametags that are hand on a tree at the entrance to the facility. The camp is in a secluded region with no nearby towns or cities, perhaps due to the harsh conditions.

Camp Dwyer Facts

  • Location: Helmand River Valley in the Garmsir District
  • Website: Visit amp Dwyer Website ›
  • Latitude: 31
  • Longitude: 64
  • DSN: N/A
  • The facility patrols the river and the seas to intercept and arrest any war threats coming in that direction. Being a troubled region, Afghanistan is a likely place for child trafficking and illegal drug transports. The marine also works to save this situation. It served as home to the United States Marine Troops that served in the Afghanistan wars. Numerous air-conditioning units have been installed in every housing unit at this camp to curb the harsh weather. Though there is no mobile phone service, there is internet connectivity. Laundry, gym and shower Facilities are built to be shared. The troops carry a lot of water, usually in bottles with them on their way to the field or when hiking. The weather easily dehydrates the troops and so they need to get water every now and then. When there is need, the troops are moved to the battle grounds and back. The bodies of those who died are also brought back and buried.

Using the information you have you can sign up for Motomail through Motomail.com. It will deliver your messages printed on paper during mail call, if he is on the base. They can also reply the same way, though you will get email. It’s a great way to stay in touch.
        Another mom.

Mrs. Darby Miera, for your sons safety and the safety of the other soldier please remove your comment regarding his address, and company information. Also please remove the name of the soldier that was killed as associating it with your sons name is liable to get him in a lot of trouble. If you are unable to find him, go through his FRG unit or contact the red cross.

I have the same question. My father’s mother’s maiden name was Dwyer. She was from Iowa, originally, but raised a family in Olpe, KS. Her married name was Steffes. Wondering how Camp Dwyer received its name.

      To Whom It May Concern,

Two and a half months ago I started dating online with a guy and he told me was deployed in the Dwyer camp and was due to leave end June. I believe he has left and should have been on route to South Africa (last spoke about five days ago) and now I am not really sure if he really is in the military. He sent me some photo’s and a copy of his deployment letter. Are you able to assist me in anyway to verify if this man actually exists or if someone else is using his details. If he does exists I would at least like to know that he is safe.
I really would appreciate any assistance.
      Kind Regards. Michelle

If you are related to this man you will have enough info to look him up.if you have his APO… Write him…. If it has been more than 6 mo. You can contact the red cross. You must know a lot about him on a personal level to do this. If he is just a friend hold on and pray he is safe. Remember with our men and women over seas…… No news is good news!! My Son was just deployed again. It was hard the first time, I had to keep telling myself we will know if he is injured so he is okay! Hold on, be strong and keep praying.

I was recently corresponding with someone claiming to be Frank William Bowen, he contacted me via OkCupid, The uniform in the pictures indicates he is an E6 in the Army, his patch shows the Lost Lieutenants division, the fraudulent person claimed he was stationed at Camp Dwyer. I believe someone is using Frank Bowen’s name and photos to scam women. With further research there are at least 3 facebook pages for Frank Bowen, none of which seem to be the real Frank Bowen. There were many irregularities with this person’s story. This fraudulent person never asked for money but did want me to accept $2 million dollars in cash and gold via an agent. He stated he received this money for rescuing an Afghanistan politician’s kidnapped daughter. When I refused to accept such a package he made other arrangements and then sent me a video of the “agents” pick up of the money and gold. It is so sad that this is happening, I am thankful I found the numerous websites that have information about these scams. I wish I could contact the real Frank Bowen and make him aware this is happening. If anyone has any suggestions please leave a message on this page.
