  • Campbell Barracks

    It is a major US base in Europe and it operates as US Army Headquarters for European Operations. The base is located in the city of Heidelberg in the south-west of Germany. It is also home to NATO’s Component Land Headquarters. The base played a major role in both World Wars as part of Nazi Germany. It also operated as a vital part of Adolph Hitler’s military. It also played a major role in Cold War.

    Campbell Barracks Facts

    The allied forces first entered the city in 1945 and without many efforts. The structure of the city remained intact and was not destroyed by the allied forces. Later the US base was captured that causes the regiment to move from Augsburg to Heidelberg. The US Seventh Army headquarters moved to Heidelberg in 1945 and remained there till 1946. The US Army also established an Army police to maintain law and order situations in US zones, which were disrupted due to immense war in the city.

    Talking about the role of the base in Cold War, the US forces stationed in Europe especially in Campbell Barracks in early 1990s, played vital role in the war. In 1993 the NATO headquarters in Campbell Barracks started offering its services with coalition of seven nations, which made the Campbell Barracks base as one of the most important locations during the war.

    Today the base works with collaboration of 15 NATO nations, which lead to new constructions on the base. The base also introduced new operations designed to meet new requirements of the base. The base now offers services to its allied nations stationed in Europe through NATO headquarters on Campbell Barracks.

    The base also focuses on resolving land issues, provides assistance in land operations, command and control, logistic services, training and exercise services to allied nation forces.

  • USAG Baumholder

    Baumholder is a small town in Germany and it is widely known for US base that was established during 1950s. There are around 12,000 US military personnel stationed on the base, they works on the base and moves around in the town. There are also other bases in Germany but Baumholder base offers military support to other bases as it is stationed with number of regiments and delta forces such as 5th Cavalry Regiment also known as Delta Troops. The Delta Troops have vast experience in both traditional and urban wars, they played key role in World War I and II, Afghan and Iraq War, and they are stationed around the world.

    The base is also stationed with 170th Infantry Brigade that was especially designed to be stationed in Baumholder base. The regiment is also a part of program designed to expand US Army to around 75,000 soldiers while stationed on the base. The program is estimated to be completed till 2013. The basic purpose of the program is to establish a new regiment that is much stronger than other regiments. The newly formed regiment may return to United States by 2012 or 2013 where it may be equipped with better training and form heavier and stronger combat team.

    The base offers all basic facilities of a small city such as health care, primary and secondary school for families living here. The Baumholder town is home to local festivals and exhibitions, which creates recreational activities for families on the base.

    The US soldiers on the base were also reported to be involved in crime activities in the town of Baumholder in 2005. The local police arrested two US soldiers from the town who were later handed over to US military; the incident severely damaged the image of the base.

  • USAG Bamberg

    The Bamberg base is also referred to as USAG Bamberg and Warner Barracks at some places. The base is located in the city of Bamberg in southern Germany. And it is also considered as one of the best US stations outside the country. The best thing about the base is that US soldiers are stationed with their families and they are provided with all the facilities of a complete city such as education, health, recreational activities and more. The base has little lack of transport facilities for families living in the area so it makes it useful to have own transport.

    The base has been under control of US forces since after World War II. The 3rd and 45th Infantry Division played key role in capturing the area from Nazi Germany. The 3rd Infantry Division is still active but the 45th Infantry Division is not active anymore.

    In 1891 the 5th Royal Bavarian Division entered the area and built many buildings and houses, which were used during both World Wars; today some of them still stands today and are now part of historical architecture. During both wars the base was stationed with different regiments of Germany and other countries. One of the most popular regiment stationed on Bamberg base was 17th Cavalry Regiment of Germany. An airfield was built on the base in 1928, which is still in use today. Surprisingly the Bamberg has been stationed with almost all the regiments of Germany for some time.

    The US forces entered the area in 1950 and named the base as Warren Barracks, named after Henry F. Warren who also received Medal of Honor in 1945. Today the base has been divided into different groups according to regiments, combat training teams and other groups. The base has also received munitions exchanges in early years of occupation; today it is has strict operations and exercises.

  • USAG Ansbach

    Germany Ansbach is also known as USAG Ansbach and it is located in the town of Ansbach, Germany. The base has very importance as it administrates all operations of US Arm Force in the Southern region of Germany. The base is an attraction of German architecture where installation of US Forces is stationed but they do not have the permission to operate in the country. The base comprises of US Forces with their families and they have all the features of a city. Ansbach is a very beautiful town and has great features, which is perfect for training exercise. It is not a very effective base as it is designed to train and exercise in hostile conditions and terrains of Germany.

    In 1945 the Western Allied Invasion of Germany, much of the area was captured by United States Third Army or commonly known as United States Central Army. The US Third Army used 354th Fighter Group comprising of air planes such P-47 Thunderbolt to capture the area from Nazi Germany. After the war the US Forces along NATO forces stayed in the area until the installation was divided into five different groups in Germany. Today they have upgrades their bases with more buildings such as school and library for their families, hospital and other useful facilities. The base does not have air squadrons and has no fight jet planes in the area; they only have training and exercises facilities and equipments.

    Talking about facilities on the base, the base is a popular sporting area for US soldiers stationed in Germany. It also has fitness center with trained staff and offer lockers, wide range of fitness equipments and other good facilities. The base also has a bowling area with snacks bars, professional bowling shops. The base also offers outdoor sport activities such as skiing and resorts.
