  • USCG Station Point Judith

    It is also known as Station Point Judith and it is a very beautiful location located on the sea shore of Rhode Island of United Sates. The base is used by US Coast Guard for search-and-rescue operations. The base has high importance as it is one of active stations of US Coast Guard having close access to open sea, which gives helicopters instant access to the sea. The station looks over around 70 miles of shore including a small island in the open sea having a smaller station of Point Judith. The station resides under the command of Senior Chief Petty Officer Eric Baruzzi.

    The station is of fair size but its instant access gives it advantage over other stations and it can offer rapid response when needed. The station has all its equipments stored in safe place and they can be taken in use instantly. It is built on the corner of the shore and it even has a light house having height of 51-feet, which also gives the feature of watch tower for open sea. It has small ships and boats in water ready for rapid response. The Station Point Judith also works with US Navy to deliver best performance during operations; it also has plenty of space for helicopter landing and preparation area.

    The site was also an important location during World War II and it played good role in making communication in the Atlantic Ocean. During World War II a German ship sank here and interestingly it was insight of the light house at the station. The light house was also widely used to observe German ships passing near Point Judith in the Atlantic Ocean. Point Judith also became the center of concentration by US Navy as Point Judith was stationed with navy personnel; it also served as the landing site of blimps used for bombing of German ships.

  • Naval Station Newport

    The station is also known as Naval Station Newport and it is located near the town of Newport and Middletown in the state of Rhode Island. It is also the former station of destroyer squadrons of US Navy. Today it works along US Coast Guard to keep maintenance of inactive ships. The base is now also home to Naval Supply Corps Chain, Officer Candidate School, Naval War College and Naval Justice School. It was established in 1883 and it was significantly used during the Civil War. The base now operates under the command of Captain Joseph P. Voboril.

    The base is also home to dismantling operations of USS ships including aircraft carriers and destroyers such as USS Saratoga, USS Forrestal and others. It has also become the permanent station of decommissioned USS Saratoga built by US Naval Shipyard New York; it is a major aircraft carrier first built in 1952 and it offered 42 years of service. The ship also received numerous titles for its outstanding performance. Infact it is not decided to whether dismantle the ship or not, it is wished by many people to place the ship in a nearby museum of North Kingtown.

    The base received major upgrades in 2005 and the base was added with more training facilities and resources. It also works along other US forces including US Coast Guard, Naval Undersea Warfare with its headquarters Rhode Island Newport station. The Naval Undersea Warfare was established after US Naval Torpedo Station in 1869, which offered its services World War I and II. Later the base was added with more facilities Naval Station Newport was founded. The base is also a popular tourist attraction for its nearby naval museum in nearby town of North Kingtown where tourists get to see things from US Navy especially from Naval Station Newport.

  • USCG – Coast Guard Station Castle Hill

    The Rhode Island Castle Hill is also sometimes known as Station Castle Hill and it is operated by the US Coast Guard. The primary purpose of the station includes overlooking the operations of US Coast Guard in Newport in Rhode Island. The station is also responsible to assist US Coast Guard in search-and-rescue operations. Beside an important Coast Guard station it is also home to popular tourist attractions and luxurious resorts. It also assists Coast Guard in environmental protection program. It also has ship docking facility and has some regular ships on the station, which includes USCGC Juniper and USS Bainbridge.

    The station has a small two floor building housing all the equipments and staff. It also has a light house usually known as Castle Hill Light built on the corner of the shore. The light house is also listed in National Register of Historic Places. The light house was built in 1980 and it is located on the Narragansett Bay on the north of Rhode Island. The light house offers marvelous sight of the sea and it is one of the most active locations of US Coast Guard as it is widely used to monitor boats and ships entering the premises of Rhodes Island.

    The site of the light house once belonged to Alexander Agassiz from University of Harvard; interestingly the site was sold the government of United States for $1 after the hurricane of 1938. What is more interesting is that their descendents now owns a resort near the location of the light house named as Castle Hill Inn and Resort, which is visible from the light house.

    The light house of Station Castle Hill is not open to public but it can be viewed from a distance and especially from Castle Hill Inn and Resort; it has a red light instead of white and it flashes every eight second that can been seen from other islands as well.
